Dr. Matthew Wood is a seasoned classical pianist, noted for his “electrifying performance” (Andre Harrell II, Voyager). Recent performances include internationally in Costa Rica (V Encuentro de Pianistas), South Africa (Erin Hall, Cape Town), and three times in Serbia at the World Piano Conference. Matthew holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in piano performance from Louisiana State University. He previously earned a Master of Music degree from the University of New Orleans, and a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of West Florida. He has performed in over 80 venues in 17 of the United States as soloist, chamber musician, and piano concerto soloist with orchestras (Mozart #23 and Schumann, most recently). His teachers have included Willis Delony, Robin Holtz-Williams, Hedi Salanki-Rubardt, Daisy de Lucca-Jaffe, Pitagoras Goncalves, Daniel Nagy, and Chad Twedt. From 2013-2020, he was a full-time member of the music faculty at New Orleans Center for Creative Arts (NOCCA), Louisiana’s state arts conservatory for high school students. There he collaborated as vocal accompanist, choir director, and opera conductor, and taught music theory, musicianship, music history, and class piano. Matthew has frequently adjudicated competitions and given master classes in the Gulf Coast region and in Serbia as well.
